Message from the Editor about book reviews:

WE ONLY REVIEW WESTERN FICTION OR POETRY

Your book must be printed--complete---a real book, and it must be family-friendly to be considered for a WesternFictionReview.

To request a review please send a concise description of your book, the ISBN number, your publisher's name and complete mailing address, the books release date and a short description.  We'd like to know if your book is hardcover or paperback, its price, how many pages it has and who your distributors are.  It also helps to know something about the author.  Please send this request in an email to        Ahholt@ahholt.com

Put Review Query in the subject line. I will respond by e-mailing you my snail mail address if it is possible for us to review your work in a timely manner.

We can only accept completed books at this time, but please send your request to us as early as possible. We will do our best to prepare and publish the review before your book's formal release date.  If your book is recently published we will still review.

When we decide to feature a book in WesternFictionReview, we will automatically send a tear sheet to the publisher for their records. If the book is submitted for review by a publicist, an agent, or author we will furnish each with a copy of the review as long as we are furnished an email or the  complete address.

NOTE:  We'll be able to write a better review if you include your book's press release and a short bio.

Each review will be printed in at least two issues of WesternFictionReview.  It will then be archived on the WesternFictionReview website indefinitely.

Thank you

Anne Holt

EDITOR'S MESSAGE

This edition of WesternFictionReview introduces twenty-one new western stories and two collections of poems.  Some of these novels are by surprisingly accomplished new writers who are just beginning their careers and some are by veteran writers of two--four--six--a dozen books.  I found all of them entertaining, with attractive, interesting characters.  I envy some of the writers their exceptional talent.

Any good bookseller can find copies of these books for you.  Please ask your librarian to stock every one. Most of these writers have a presence on the internet, and I know they would appreciate it if you would look them up and let them know you like their work.  Every writer needs a reader's encouragement.

Thank you,

Anne

SPECIAL NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Should You Attend a Writer's Conference?
Monday, June 30, 2003

I returned last evening from the Western Writers of America Conference in
Helena, Montana. My head is spinning. I met Elmer Kelton, Don Coldsmith,
Dusty Richards, Kat Martin and many others. They are all wonderful, kind,
gracious people who were willing to take time to talk with a new, unknown
writer.

We had many guests--and I noticed the famous writers were just as gracious
to them as they were to new members---what a thrill.

The conference is worth saving up your money for all through the year. (Next year it will be in Mesquite, Nevada) They gave us panels on how to sell our work and announced a list of activities to help writers reach readers that they will offer members throughout the year. I may be making some money from my writing by next year.

Attending a writer's conference has to be the best source of support for any writer, no matter your field---we all face the same problems. I learned from every event and every conversation. Many of the guests were readers, and they seemed to enjoy the conference as much as I did.

See you at the Women Writing the West Conference in Tucson in October.
